There are two forms of laser vision correction that are often used as an alternative to the most popular LASIK technique. These two methods have often been thought to have very similar effects on the patient as each other and a new study has confirmed this. Read More...

Will Californians approve Proposition 19 in the Nov. 2 election? That's the measure that would regulate and tax the legal sale of medical marijuana.

Back in February we told you about the results of a study by the state's Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research, which found that pot, even in low doses, can alleviate pain and other symptoms. Read More...

Australian scientists have uncovered a new protein that blocks DNA damage in the cell and thus help spread various cancers, a breakthrough that could pave the way for medical strategies to improve cancer therapies.

The findings by Toronto University researchers - Daniel Durocher, Anne-Claude Gingras and Frank Sicheri - show how cells regulate their genetic material.

Their findings have improved understanding of familial breast and ovarian cancer, as their research shows that the new protein, called OTUB1, inhibits the action of BRCA1, a DNA repair protein that often mutates itself into these cancers, a university statement said Friday.

Even as the controversy over the origin of the new antibiotic-resistant bacteria named after India — New Delhi Metallo-beta lactamase-1 (NDM-1) — continues, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has virtually endorsed the study published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases journal saying that the article had drawn attention to the issue of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and, in particular, raised the awareness of infections caused by multi-drug resistant bacteria.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the WHO said that while multi-drug resistant bacteria are not new and will continue to appear, this development requires monitoring and further study to understand the extent and modes of transmission, and to define the most effective measures for control. University of Minnesota researchers have identified two FDA approved drugs that may fight HIV. "HIV's ability to mutate makes it difficult to target and treat," said molecular virologist Louis Mansky. "We wanted to take advantage of this behaviour by stimulating HIV's mutation rate, essentially
using the virus as a weapon against itself," Mansky added.

The two drugs, decitabine and gemcitabine - both FDA approved and currently used in pre-cancer and cancer therapy - were found to eliminate HIV infection in the mouse model by causing the virus to mutate itself to death - an outcome researchers dubbed "lethal mutagenesis." Read More...
In order to understand the anatomy of the female knee better gender specific total knee prosthesis was developed. The results are anticipated to put forth improved outcomes for women. Experts examined 85 women who received gender-specific implant in one knee and standard prosthesis in the other. They identified that there was no specific advantage of the gender-specific knee.

The women enlisted for the study were examined for around two years after they received the knee implants. Both the knees faced similar knee scores and range of motion when these women lay down. Scientists also shared that except three women all other patients could seamlessly bend their knees by at least 90 degrees. Read More...

A simple breath for detecting cancer is being developed by scientists, and the test which is in the early stages of development will be able predict whether you have cancer or not, even before patients suffer any symptoms.

Hundreds of lives could be save via early identification by the revolutionary test developed to diagnose the four most common forms of cancer i.e. lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer.

This study shows healthy breath can be differentiated from malignant breath, including the breath of patients suffering from different cancer types. Read More...

CHICAGO, IL, July 14, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Have you been considering LASIK? Did you know that in addition to improved vision, many people experience a noticeably improved quality of life following LASIK? We seem to take good vision for granted, even if it is corrected vision. But only when we have good uncorrected vision does it really hit home just how the quality of our lives are impacted by what might seem only a convenience-freedom from the need for glasses or contact lenses.

Things We Take For Granted

We go to work every day and expect to do our job just as we did the day before. Now think about working without glasses or contact lenses. Would that be more convenient? What about promotions, or jobs you have only dreamed about?

Most of us never think about how LASIK might affect our careers. Are there any aspects of your business that you cannot do because you wear glasses or contact lenses? Have you been denied promotions or even eligibility for an opening because Read More...

Q. I'm thinking about getting LASIK eye surgery. Is it safe?

A. LASIK, which stands for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis, improves vision by reshaping the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye.

Using a laser, an eye surgeon can free patients of eyeglasses and contact lenses. The results of LASIK have been improving because of technological advances and the experience of surgeons. More than 90 percent of people who have undergone refractive (vision-correction) surgery don't have to wear glasses or contacts most of the time. Read More...

The homeopathic treatment for retinal bleeding takes into consideration the whole of you, not just your eyes. After all, your eyes are connected to the rest of you, so they shouldn't be considered separately.

Good health is all about your immune system. If yours is in tip top order, you won't get any health problem. Most people have very compromised immunities for a variety of reasons.

A typical western diet does nothing for natural good health. Neither do drugs (social or medical) or vaccines. Neither does not dealing with stress. Many cultures (especially the western model) spend a lot of time suppressing your emotional, physical and spiritual expressions. You are meant to conform to what is considered 'normal'.

What this means is that you become unhappy and unhealthy because you can't be the real you. This is detrimental to an efficient immune system.

When you get homeopathic help, either from a Read More...

Low level laser therapy is a relatively new school of thought, which began in 1967. Endre Mester studied the effects of laser light on skin cancer at the Semmelweis University, the oldest and most prestigious medical school in Hungary. Mester launched the studies so that other scholars and medical professionals could look further into the clinical benefits of low level laser treatment, or LLLT. For several decades, medical experts were still considering low level lasers as "experimental" treatments.

LLLT is the application of red and near infra-red light over injuries to improve wound healing and give relief to acute and chronic pain. In recent years, LLLT has been widely accepted in the medical industry as a form of treating muscle pain. Many of those who suffer from constant and chronic muscle pain will often go to a massage therapist to release the pain, take handfuls o Read More...
